How to set up a UV Blacklight shoot.
A fellow photographer ask me about an image he saw online with someone wearing fishnet stocking, but the person was invisible. He ask me how this shot was done. Was it shot in camera or edited in photoshop? At the time I had no idea how this shot was done. This is very interesting, and it made me curious to know how this was done. Was it heavenly photoshop, or was it some type of lighting technique?
The first but only clue I had was that the stocking was a neon color. So with that to go on. I look online for how to make neon glow. My search came back with using blacklight. So the article reads: materials that are either white or fluorescent. The brighter the neon color, the greater the chance the item will glow. Fluorescent green, pink, yellow, and orange are the safest bets. You can get lucky with some purple, red, and blue colors though these colors tend to be a little more hit-and-miss.
Now knowing how it was done. I figure I’ll give it a try and set up a shoot. But first, I have to get the items I need for the shoot, like blacklights, neon wardrobe, and or stockings, and something to mount the lights on. I was able to get from Amazon the stocking and 4ft blacklight tubes, and what I need for mounting I got from my local hardware store.
With already have two models in mind for this project that I think would look amazing for this shoot.
NOTE: Make sure you let your model know NOT to look at the UV lights and not have the model in the light for long periods.

The camera
I was my Sony A7R 4 with my Tamron 28-75 2.8
With my camera setting at
Aperture 2.8.
Shutter at 1/50s
With an ISO 100
Lighting setup
Make sure you can eliminate as much ambient light in the room you are using.
1- Black 9ft backdrop
2- black V-Flats
2- white V-Flats
4- UV 4ft black lights
Wardrobe
The trick with creating this type of effect of images is to use neon color clothing.
But it’s not all about bright colors. The colors need to have fluorescent compounds.
