The Idea

I got the idea for this year's shoot early from a fellow photographer named Steve. Hernandez showed me this amazing AI art that he found on Instagram that was very interesting. It gave me a beetle juice look with a Harley Quinn vibe. Steve was thinking about doing this for his shoot. But it was one of the ideas he had in mind. So I asked if it was okay if I did that look.

Wardrobe and Props

My first stop was to check Amazon and see if I could find a strip bodysuit or blouse and tights. I didn’t know what the peace that was around the waist. But figured I could get some fabric from a fabric store. After about 15 minutes, I found the perfect bodysuit for the look but was having a little bit of trouble finding tights that had the strips going vertical and not horizontal. They have ones that were sheer and black that were vertical, but I needed a pair of black and white ones. So, my first order was the bodysuit with the sheer and black pantyhose, so after thinking about it. I came up with the right wording to somewhat find what I was looking for. They showed the tights were shorts, so I didn’t know how far the stripes go up. But they were the only ones that I could find that would give me the look I was looking for. So I ordered two pairs, just in case.

I really didn’t put any thought into props. But after looking at the AI art theme. The theme looked like it was about a broken heart and turning black. So I found that idea. I asked my friend and props guy Rex if he could make me two 4ft hearts: one black and one Red. But I wanted the red heart to be a broken heart.

So, I guess if you notice that the black heart is not in any of the photos. Well, the original black heart got broken the day before Rex was able to deliver it to me. I made another one, but it was smaller, somewhere around 2ft. But look right in the shoot.

So, let's go back to the piece around her waist.

I looked on Amazon to see if I could find a tutu to go around the model’s waists and found an amazing long tutu-like piece that would work for the look.

The Team

So Steve for the concept and Rex for the props. Now I need a hairstyle, a makeup artist, and a model for the shoot. So my first stop was my friend and partner in crime when it comes to photo shoots Karla.

I had three choices for model that I would think that would work for this shoot. Mary, Victoria, and Aliana. So I worked with Aliana in my Halloween shoot last year, I asked her. But she was already booked for a big runway show in Paris. So, I asked Victoria, but the only date that Victoria was available was October 15. So, I scheduled the shoot with her.

The photoshoot

So, you would think I was all set. But, and yes, but. I forgot to confirm the dates with Karla and Rex for the shoot. Yes, both were not available on October 15. So, the only date they were available was October 21. But Victoria was booked until after October. So I only had one model left that I would be perfect for this shoot, and that was Mary. But Mary was also not available until after October. So, I had no model.

So, Karla suggested that she ask her daughter, could she like to Model for this shoot and she was on board.

So, all seemed to be in place, but I was still waiting on the backdrop for the shoot. But luckily it can be two days before the shoot.

So with all that, that shoot turns out amazing.

Karla's daughter Gizelle did an amazing job modeling.
