Creative Burnout

First, I’m going to say depression is a real thing and should not be taken lightly. It would be best if you talked to a professional therapist.

But today, I went to talk about having what is call: a creative block or creative burnout. I've had this happen a few times, but I never really overthought it. I was thinking; I really wasn’t into it. So, what is a creative block or creative burnout? I did a Google search by typing in (creative block depression), and this was my search result.

. Are creatives more likely to be depressed?

Creative blocks are periods of reduced creative thinking and productivity. Such blocks can occur at any stage of a project. During these, designers experience difficulties in generating fresh ideas or executing existing ideas creatively. However, they can take a variety of approaches to overcome such blocks.

What are the symptoms of creative block?

. Emotional Symptoms

Emotionally, creative blocks often give rise to frustration, self-doubt, and a pervasive lack of motivation. You might find yourself questioning your abilities and the quality of your work.

. Why do I feel creatively blocked?

One of the most common reasons for creative block is the fear of imperfection. Many creatives consider themselves perfectionists, which can prevent them from pursuing ideas or completing projects. The reality, however, is that the only way to truly “perfect” your craft is by creating.

The list goes on. But I read into it a little more, trying to figure out why I would be depressed about photography. I love it. So I sat down and started writing out some ideas that first came to mind and then what was stopping me from doing them. This opened the door for more creative ideas, and I kept writing.

So, if you ever run out of ideas for a project, try taking a break for a few minutes, and when something comes to mind, write it down.
